It happened to us. We went to check-in at a hotel and our only debit card was denied - PANIC! Our card company did exactly what we wanted them to do - put our card on hold when it is being used out of our normal habits as that is a sign that there is fraud happening. We learned the sweet tip from our bank. If we let them know then they can notify the card company that there are going to be charges our of the norm.
